New pattern: Malcolm the sloth

Please welcome Malcolm the sloth to the hookabee family! He has been a long time coming. I started designing him in 2017, but then my family grew, and grew, so I was more than a little distracted by little people. But, over the past few years I always knew I would publish Malcolm because he is just too cute not to share. The prototype has been hanging out with us and has been my son’s toy for the past three years. He has seen better days – lookin’ a little flat and fuzzy now – but he has been well loved! Now you can make one for the little ones in your life (or for yourself to just “hang” out with).

Malcolm is a good sized stuffie, similar in size to some of my first large patterns (Koko the OwlWalden the NarwhalBobby the Bee, and Flora the Bunny). He measures about 11 inches from head to bum when using worsted weight yarn, plus those long dangly legs. As always, my pattern includes detailed instructions and step-by-step photos, plus you can contact me along the way to ask any questions.

I would say he is an easy level pattern. All the pieces start with a chain before working in the round, which is different from starting with the magic ring technique most often used with amigurumi, but I include instructions and a photo to help out if the technique is new to you.

His paws do not stay together, but if you want him to be a hanging sloth you can easily stitch the paws together or add a button on one paw and a corresponding loop on the opposite one so you have the option. Stitch a smile on his face or brush the yarn so he is fuzzy – make him your own!

I hope you enjoy making him as much as I loved designing him. He really has been a fun guy to have around the past few years and I am so happy to finally be sharing him with you!

Ami-Along 2018

It’s that time of year again! This will be the the 4th annual summer ami-along and I am one of the participating designers this year. If you are new to the ami-along, basically it is a crochet and knitting event in which everyone who joins in makes amigurumi from the participating designers during the summer. This year there are 18 different designers taking part – so I am sure you will find something to make!

It all takes place on ravelry, so join the group, check out the patterns you can use by browsing the group’s pattern bundle, and get ready! One of the best parts? All the patterns, from all designers, will be on sale (25% off) starting before the event (June 25-July 8), so you have time to prepare. PLUS there are prizes. I will be giving away one of my handmade project bags.

I plan to make some little foods by Alyssa of Monster’s Toy Box (learn more about her in this interview!). I will start with her healthy snacks, and then move on to the garden (veggie) snacks. If I have time I will also make her munchie monster to eat them all! I just love these patterns. I have made some of them before for my neice and nephew (see photos below), but this time they will be for my son!

Until next time,

2016 Donations from Bill the Pineapple

2016 Bill the Pineapple amigurumi donation

Thank you to everyone who purchased a Bill the Pineapple pattern this year – I was able to donate over $1330 to the charity Support Education Togo. That is amazing! So many children in Togo, Africa will benefit from your support.

Want to learn more about the charity? Visit and learn how your money is going towards building schools so more children have the opportunity to be educated in a safe environment. My father started the charity himself, so I know it is one that can be trusted and ALL the money donated goes to help the students in Togo.

Happy new year!

Until next time,
