Please welcome Malcolm the sloth to the hookabee family! He has been a long time coming. I started designing him in 2017, but then my family grew, and grew, so I was more than a little distracted by little people. But, over the past few years I always knew I would publish Malcolm because he is just too cute not to share. The prototype has been hanging out with us and has been my son’s toy for the past three years. He has seen better days – lookin’ a little flat and fuzzy now – but he has been well loved! Now you can make one for the little ones in your life (or for yourself to just “hang” out with).
Malcolm is a good sized stuffie, similar in size to some of my first large patterns (Koko the Owl, Walden the Narwhal, Bobby the Bee, and Flora the Bunny). He measures about 11 inches from head to bum when using worsted weight yarn, plus those long dangly legs. As always, my pattern includes detailed instructions and step-by-step photos, plus you can contact me along the way to ask any questions.
I would say he is an easy level pattern. All the pieces start with a chain before working in the round, which is different from starting with the magic ring technique most often used with amigurumi, but I include instructions and a photo to help out if the technique is new to you.
His paws do not stay together, but if you want him to be a hanging sloth you can easily stitch the paws together or add a button on one paw and a corresponding loop on the opposite one so you have the option. Stitch a smile on his face or brush the yarn so he is fuzzy – make him your own!
I hope you enjoy making him as much as I loved designing him. He really has been a fun guy to have around the past few years and I am so happy to finally be sharing him with you!
